Intelligent Client Coordinator of NHS Supply Chain

The Intelligent Client Coordinator (ICC) went live on 1 April 2018. It is the management function of the new NHS Supply Chain operating model, previously known as the Future Operating Model.

As the management function of the NHS Supply Chain operating model, the ICC will deliver savings of £2.4 billion over five years, by leveraging the collective buying power of the NHS to provide clinically assured products at the best value which meet the diverse needs of NHS organisations.

What Will Be Changing?

The new NHS Supply Chain operating model is being introduced in a way that minimises impact on operations. Ordering from the online catalogue, customer services, deliveries and account managers will all remain the same.

Over the transition period and in particular when Category Tower Service Providers go live in May and July you will begin to hear from the new providers about their priority areas for product optimisation.

Who Are the Category Tower Service Providers?

Category Tower Service Providers (CTSPs) for the Medical Towers are operational in May, with the Capital and Non-Medical Towers going live in July.

The 11 CTSPs have been working closely with the programme team to develop frameworks which will ensure delivery of clinically evaluated, quality products at the best possible value.

I Am a Customer, How Can I Get Involved?

Customer Account Managers will adopt a business-partnering relationship with trusts working together to make sure the best products at the best possible price are procured for clinicians, patients and the public.

There will be opportunities for trusts to get involved through Customer Advisory Groups and Clinical and Product Assurance work.

Contract Extension for Enabling Services

The Department of Health and Social Care has decided to extend the current contract, only so far as it applies to the enabling services, Logistics, Information Technology and Transactional Services, with the incumbent DHL, beyond October 2018. The extension will result in phased operational service commencement dates for these services over a period of 6 months. Additionally, the Department of Health and Social Care has decided to perform the Transactional Services in house as a single financial management structure, delivered centrally, post contract extension.

All other elements of the Operating Model for NHS Supply Chain (previously known as the Future Operating Model) have been progressing at pace. The management office has now been established and has gone live on 1 April 2018. The Category Tower Service Providers are due to go live and will begin to realise the delivery of procurement savings for the NHS as planned in May (Medical Category Towers) and July 2018 (Capital and Non-Medical Towers).

Does the extension of enabling services impact current NHS Supply Chain Customers and Suppliers?

The answer is no. Nothing will change for suppliers and customers of NHS Supply Chain as Logistics, Information Technology and Transactional Services will continue to be delivered throughout the extension period.
