Important Customer Notice Update

  • The supplier BVI has informed us that an additional product code has been affected by the ongoing supply issue.
  • The additional product code is:
    FSP10946 – Blade ophthalmic 4.0MM Banana.
  • There is an indirect alternative product code available to order for the additional affected product code:
    FSP10679 – Blade Micro 4MM Mini Banana Curved.

  • We are still sourcing alternatives for three of the product codes and this will be reviewed on 9 December 2019. A further update to the ICN will be provided.

  • The supplier BVI has informed us that the majority of its product codes are now available to order, view the resolved tab on the product listing.
  • There are now four product codes affected by the temporary supply issue, which includes two new product codes.
  • A potential indirect alternative product is available to order for one of the four affected product codes.
  • Unfortunately, we haven’t identified any suitable alternatives for the remaining three product codes.
  • We are working closely with suppliers to identify alternative products for the remaining three codes.

  • The supplier BVI has informed us that the majority of its product codes are now available please see the resolved tab on the product listing.
  • There are now 11 product codes in total that are affected by the supply issue.
  • This includes a further four product codes that have been added to the updated product listing.
  • FSP542 and FSP591 are available to order whilst stocks last but once the stock has been depleted these will also have temporary supply issues.
  • Potential indirect alternative products are available to order for five of the affected product codes, but we are working with suppliers to identify alternatives for the remaining six products.

Please note that due to the clinical nature of these alternative products we advise you to consult your own clinical experts to ensure suitability for your organisations use of these products.

  • The supplier BVI has informed us that a further five product codes have been affected by this supply issue.
  • There is now a total of 75 product codes affected.
  • The affected codes may experience intermittent availability as the stock is fluctuating due to the delayed manufacturing and the supplier moving distribution sites.
  • The supply issue is anticipated to be resolved by September 2019.
  • Please refer to the updated product listing below for further information the affected product codes and any available alternative product codes.

Change:

  • There have recently been two ICNs published regarding BVI products that are affected by the same supply issue. To avoid confusion, we are combining ICN 565 with the products affected in this ICN.
  • BVI has informed us that there is ongoing disruption to supply across its Ophthalmic products.
  • There are currently a total 70 product codes affected.
  • The ongoing disruption to supply is due to delayed manufacturing and the supplier moving distribution sites.

Impact:

  • Potential indirect alternative products are available to order for 13 of the affected product codes.
  • Unfortunately, there are no suitable alternative available for 58 of the affected product codes.

  • The supply issue is anticipated to be resolved by September 2019.

Next Steps:

  • Customers are advised to log in to our website to view the affected product codes and potential alternative products.
  • We are working closely with our suppliers to source suitable alternatives for the 58 affected codes currently unavailable.
  • We will update this ICN and the product listing when they are available.

Update:

  • Following the recent transition of distribution sites, NHS Supply Chain has been informed by the supplier that 10 of their Ophthalmic product lines remain affected by the temporary supply issue
  • Product codes FSP10917, IVZ462 , FSP10968, FSP10751, IVC973 and FSP10768 will be unavailable until 8 February 2019.
  • FSP10953 and IVK007 will be unavailable until 15 and 22 February 2019 respectively.
  • FSP539 and IVZ2862 will not be available until April 2019 due to a shortage in component parts.
  • We are investigating the reasons for the delay in these products and working with BVI to identify potential alternative product lines. A further update will be provided by Friday 1 February 2019.

Update:

  • The supplier BVI has confirmed that its distribution site move has been completed and orders are now being fulfilled.
  • NHS Supply Chain is continuing to source further potential alternative products to the previously affected BVI product lines and will add these potential alternatives to our product catalogue, where identified.
  • Orders placed are now being completed and will be subject to the advertised lead time for product.
  • Customer who placed orders between 9-16 January 2019 will have received a notification of delivery date, these will be subject to the advertised lead time for product.

Update:

  • The top 19 affected BVI product lines, which covers approximately 65% of the overall spend, now have at least one potential alternative product identified.
  • NHS Supply Chain are continuing to source further potential alternative products to the affected BVI lines.
  • The supplier has confirmed that orders are now being processed again. Customers who have placed an order will have received a notification of delivery date, these will be subject to advertised lead time for product.

Change:

  • The supplier BVI has given us very late notification of an interruption to supply with its ophthalmology range of products.
  • 460 blue diamond ophthalmic products are affected. Of which, 157 products have been ordered in the last three months.
  • The disruption in supply is due to the supplier moving distribution sites, but BVI failed to inform NHS Supply Chain of the effect on product supply of this change in a timely manner.

Impact:

  • The 460 affected product codes will not be available for delivery between 9 and 16 January 2019.
  • Product orders can still be placed but will not be processed until 15 January 2019. At this date the variable lead time for each product will apply.
  • As a result of the late notice, there are currently no identified potential alternative products available.
  • Alternatives are being sought from other suppliers and a further update will be provided on 11 January 2019.

  • The interruption in supply is anticipated to be resolved by 16 January 2019.

  • Customers can continue to place orders, but products will not be available to be delivered until after 15 January 2019.
