Important Customer Notice Update

- Following up on the previous ICN on 25 July 2023, there was some inaccurate information provided which has since been corrected.
- Two alternative manufacturer’s product codes were listed incorrectly:
- MCP4930H is MCP493H
- VCP1228H is VCP1228E.
- Three products were listed with incorrect product codes:
- FVQ1259 is FVQ2571
- FVQ1256 is FVQ2533
- FVP976 is FVQ2816.
- There are 438 product codes that remain affected.
- NHS Supply Chain is working with Johnson & Johnson to ensure continuity of supply and to minimise disruption during this period.
- Individual Trust Impact statements have been distributed by Customer Relationship Managers, if you have not received this, please contact your local Customer Relationship Manager.
- Individual Trust Impact Statements detailing the Johnson & Johnson rebate for the first year of 50% of the cost pressure, this is only available in year 1. We are currently awaiting confirmation on how the rebate will be paid back to trusts. Once an agreed method of payment has been confirmed we will update this ICN.
- Potential direct and indirect alternative products are available to order through our online catalogue.
- Please note, Plus Sutures are on average 30% more expensive than the standard sutures they replace.

- The affected product codes will be delisted from our online catalogue in phases:
- Phase 1 – Non-antibacterial MONOCRYL™ Sutures to MONOCRYL™ Plus Antibacterial Sutures from 1 August 2023 – 89 codes
- Phase 2 – Non-antibacterial PDS™II Sutures to PDS™II Plus Antibacterial Sutures from 4 September 2023 – 127 codes
- Phase 3 – Non-antibacterial VICRYL™ Sutures to VICRYL™ Plus Antibacterial Sutures from 2 October 2023 – 222 codes.
- Customers are advised to log into our website to view the potential direct and indirect alternative products.
- Please stick to your normal buying patterns whilst we are in this transition period.
- In advance of the move from Standard Sutures to Sutures Plus ensure your systems are updated with the new codes.
- Please note that due to the clinical nature of these alternative products, we advise you to consult your own clinical experts to ensure suitability for your organisations use of these products.
Any trust wishing to review their options should speak to their local Customer Relationship Manager who will advise them of the next steps and timelines.
Change:
- The supplier Johnson & Johnson has informed us of a discontinuation with its Suture products.
- There are 438 product codes affected.
- The supplier is discontinuing these products due to moving its current range into its ‘Plus’ range.
- This follows guidance from NICE on the use of ‘Anti-Micro’ Sutures. Please see our Useful Links section for more information.

Impact:
- The affected product codes will be delisted from our online catalogue in phases as follows:
- Phase 1 – from 1 August 2023 – Non-antibacterial MONOCRYL™ Sutures to MONOCRYL™ Plus Antibacterial Sutures – 89 codes.
- Phase 2 – from 4 September 2023 – Non-antibacterial PDS™II Sutures to PDS™II Plus Antibacterial Sutures – 127 codes.
- Phase 3 – from 2 October 2023 – Non-antibacterial VICRYL™ Sutures to VICRYL™ Plus Antibacterial Sutures – 222 codes.
