Salary: £57,000 – £76,000 per annum

We have a newly created opportunity within NHS Supply Chain for a PPM (Programme & Project Management) Standards & Assurance Manager to join our Strategy and Change team.


NHS Supply Chain are amidst an exciting and sustained period of change. Your role is an important one: you will be a key point of leadership contact in the organisation regarding change delivery. You will have experience of establishing and assuring a change framework and driving the performance of that framework. Currently there are 35 projects and programmes in flight at any one time worth £50m in total.


Your previous experience and track record is important however what will be critical is your ability to bring others on board by winning hearts and minds to drive cultural and mindset change. You will need to show outstanding communication skills and high levels of infectious passion; we are we are looking for you to talk about change in plain English, striking the balance between theory and practice by bringing it to life. In a nutshell you will lead in setting standards and bring innovation.


This is a unique opportunity – you will have the ability to increase the chance of successful project delivery. All our projects and programmes have the same end theme in common: to provide better frontline technology and services to the NHS to improve patient outcomes.


What does the PPM Standards & Assurance Manager do at NHS Supply Chain?


  • Your primary focus will be to set and own our change delivery standards, improve the standards, and assure performance to the standards.
  • You will own our Change Framework and be accountable for delivering a consistent approach to change that works for NHS Supply Chain, with enough flexibility to meet the diversity of change (IT and non-IT, agile and waterfall) activity across the business.
  • You will also manage & deliver a programme of assurance activity with the fundamental objective of increasing the chances of project success through standardisation, challenging project teams constructively & acting as a critical friend to ‘up the game’ of the portfolio.


What skills, qualifications and qualities do I need to be successful?


  • Excellent understanding of Change Frameworks in organisations with complex change portfolios (c£50m)
  • Excellent understanding of both Agile & Waterfall methodologies
  • Experience of managing a PMO and/or large-scale change programmes / projects
  • Experience developing PPM standards to rapidly increase maturity and standardisation
  • Experience operating a programme of assurance activity across a change portfolio.
  • Relevant PMO / PPM qualifications (MoP / P3O/ MSP) or equivalent level of experience
  • Able to demonstrate the value of the change framework and consistent way of doing change, champions great change
  • Can thrive with ambiguity whilst constantly striving for clarity for self and others
  • Positive, pro-active, can-do attitude
  • Experience of portfolio and PPM systems & tooling, and extracting best value
  • Experience and knowledge of healthcare sector, either public or private
  • Good understanding of Logistics, Supply Chain and eRetailer organisations
