A Day in the Life of Jason Fendick

12 August 2022

What’s your name and job title?

Jason Fendick – eCommerce Deployment Lead.

What team do you work in at NHS Supply Chain?

Strategy, Communications, Marketing & Digital.

What does your typical working day entail?

A typical day would be out at a trust, this could be implementing eDC/Gold, meetings, device management, training, or reviews (to see how well a trust is managing eDC).

How has the pandemic affected your work?

The only time it affected us was during lockdown, this meant we could not get into trusts. Government and business guidelines had to be followed, in July 2020 we started to do HSE COVID-19 risk assessments with the trusts to see if it was safe to return with social distancing. This was only if a visit was necessary, if an online meeting was suffice, this was the preferred option. The business did supply us with PPE equipment (masks, gloves, hand gel, etc.) to be worn when visiting trusts. Once we had received completed risk assessments from the trusts and it was safe, it was back to BAU.

What motivates me is being customer focused, making sure that the customer is satisfied with the work I have delivered, being able to support other team members, building strong customer relationships and supporting our corporate values.

Please give an example of a successful project you have recently been involved in and what was the value for the customer?

Imperial College Healthcare Trust were faced with an immediate challenge before Christmas – to relocate their Western Eye Hospital services and intra-ocular lens (IOL) stock to St Mary’s Hospital due to Western Eye Hospital closing down, with very short notice. At the old site these lenses were managed by Omnicell (large vending type machines) which couldn’t be moved to St Mary’s, so eDC Gold was now the preferred solution. I was asked by the customer for my help to get these products onto eDC Gold as soon as possible to avoid any interruptions to patient treatment or loss of expensive items. I made this my highest priority, this was all whilst I was supporting an eDC Gold implementation I was doing at another one of their sites (Charing Cross). I gathered all the data I needed from the trust and was able to deliver this implementation within a week.

This meant the customer was able to continue with their ordering without any disruption to patient treatment and utilise a more cost-effective inventory management solution. I received some great feedback from one of our Senior CRMs and Director of Procurement at the trust, which lead to me winning a VIP award.
