NHS Supply Chain has been shortlisted for a 2020 CIPS Excellence in Procurement Award
We are proud to announce that NHS Supply Chain has been shortlisted in the category of Best Procurement Transformation Programme at this year’s Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Excellence in Procurement Awards. The category recognises procurement transformation projects of large-scale business process improvement projects that have resulted in improved business outcomes.
Our submission was for the work undertaken by the Procurement Transformation Programme (PTP), a complex, multi-million-pound programme and at the time one of the largest public-sector programmes of this type. The PTP was created in response to Lord Carter’s report, identifying substantial improvement opportunity in NHS procurement of clinical supplies.
Tasked with delivering a new operating model for NHS Supply Chain, PTP set about to replace the existing monolithic out-sourced service contract, moving from a ‘one-stop shop’ to a set of specialist procurement functions and other key service providers. Ultimately the new model and even with the challenges faced today remains on track to deliver £2.4 billion of savings directly back into the NHS by 2022, which can then be reinvested into frontline services.
It is an honour to have been shortlisted for a CIPS Award which celebrates excellence in procurement. We are extremely proud to represent the NHS in a line-up of nominees that includes leading organisations in their field. The vision of the PTP set out to change the NHS procurement landscape and add real value back into the NHS with the introduction of a new operating model for NHS Supply Chain. It is important to recognise that this remarkable achievement could not have happened if it wasn’t for the hard work, commitment and passion of everyone involved, as they not only delivered with their minds, but also their hearts, in wanting only the best for our NHS.Jim Spittle, Chair, SCCL Board
