NHS Supply Chain Opens New Bury St Edmunds Regional Distribution Centre
Since the successful ‘Go Live’ in May, teams at the new NHS Supply Chain regional distribution centre at Suffolk Park, Bury St Edmunds, have been working in close partnership with customers to ensure a smooth transition.
NHS Supply Chain is pleased to confirm that its new, custom-built Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Bury St Edmunds is opening as planned on Wednesday 27 May 2020.
Known as NHS Supply Chain Suffolk Park, the RDC, first announced in July 2019, and opening on schedule, will be operated by NHS Supply Chain’s logistics provider, Unipart Logistics.
Spanning 147,000 square feet of space, twice that of the existing Bury St Edmunds site, the Suffolk Park RDC represents a significant investment in the NHS Supply Chain and the opening of the site is a key part of the long term growth strategy.
Designed to provide additional capacity for future growth, Suffolk Park will operate alongside the existing Bury St Edmunds site as it ramps up, providing flexibility and additional resilience to the NHS Supply Chain service.
The opening of the site also boosts employment in the local area, with more than 100 new permanent and temporary employees currently having been recruited to Unipart Logistics.
I would like to thank all the teams that have been involved with this project for all their hard work and dedication to getting this new site opened on time as planned. This is a significant milestone in our transformation journey which aims to continuously improve our service offering for our customers.Chris Holmes, Supply Chain Director
The Suffolk Park RDC has been designed to meet the future needs of the NHS Supply Chain network and its customers, with capacity to accommodate a broader range of products, leading to efficiencies elsewhere in the network.
