With raw material costs soaring by up to 60%, Daniels Healthcare, a small to medium enterprise (SME) supplier of medical waste containers reviewed its supply chain processes with NHS Supply Chain. This helped them develop a solution to offset polypropylene price increases and avoid price increases to customers as well as reduce CO2 emissions.

NHS Supply Chain worked with Daniels to realise the opportunity to maximise pallet loads and reduce deliveries. Having reviewed their entire range, the NHS Supply Chain team focused on 11.5 litre and 22 litre containers, where savings could be made quickly through the removal of unnecessary outer packaging. Minimal packaging was an additional benefit for the customer, reducing packaging waste.

Key results

  • 46 tonnes of paper saved
  • 0.24 tonnes of plastic saved
  • 938 pallets saved equating to 18 full lorry loads
  • 19.4% more product on a pallet
  • Saving for customers on packaging disposal costs
  • Reduced carbon dioxide footprint gained through supply chain efficiencies.
