Coming Soon - our new Orthopaedics offer

Wednesday 29 April 2015

We are pleased to announce we are bringing together our existing Orthopaedics frameworks* into one all-inclusive framework, launching in October 2015.

Whilst the tender is underway, with responses already received from 77 suppliers, we wanted to take you through what this new framework could mean for your trust and also the opportunities already available to you through our route.

Representing the largest tender ever undertaken in the NHS Orthopaedic market, our new framework will provide the English NHS with its first and only complete national procurement and supply chain solution, offering a single lot allowing compliant discounts across 14 categories:

  • Joint Replacement
  • Trauma
  • Bone Cement
  • Bone Cement Mixing Devices
  • Bone Cement Removal Systems
  • Maxillofacial
  • Spine
  • Surgical Power Tools and Accessories
  • Lavage systems
  • Arthroscopy
  • Orthobiologics and Bone Substitutes
  • Ultrasound for bone healing
  • Personal Protective Theatre Equipment
  • Surgical Tourniquets.

This additional capability further strengthens our existing comprehensive Orthopaedics offer, from which over 190 trusts currently purchase, a third of which spend over £100k with us every year.

The support they receive includes:

  • Driving the best value for your trust - through national pricing, banded pricing and mini competitions. Did you know - over the last two years we have successfully removed annual prices increases from all our suppliers.
  • Specialist support - from our 15 strong team of clinical specialist practitioners, many of whom are CIPS qualified, trusted to assist both your clinical and procurement teams - ensuring you receive the tailored and scalable support you need, when you need it.
  • Dedicated procurement, integration and contract management support – your trust will be appointed a Procurement Buyer, a Contract Manager and Integration Team support from day one and throughout the life of your contract with us - committed to provide you with consistent support to drive savings and contract compliance.
  • Guaranteed compliance with speed of delivery.
  • eDC Gold – helping you manage supply chain cost control, with proven technology, providing smarter management of high value and consignment stock – saving you time, resource and money.
  • Investment in the DH Consumables fund – currently under pilot.
  • Generic Implants launch – currently under pilot.
  • Support of the British Orthopaedic Association’s ‘Getting It Right First Time’ initiative.
  • Links to Orthopaedics Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) product rating performance and pricing - for primary joint replacement - to ensure your clinicians have access to the best performing product, at the best price.
  • Links with the National Joint Registry (NJR) and full support of QIPP pricing pilot and on-going benchmarking exercises.
Some 2014/15 trust savings we have delivered:
    • Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust saved £911k
    • Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust saved £418k
    • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust saved £230k.

We launched the very first national Orthopaedics framework back in 2008. In 2014 alone NHS trusts spent over £73m through our route, helping us deliver back over £4.3m worth of savings. This year trust spend is forecast to grow to £80m and we are working towards delivering an increased savings target of £5.3m.
