NHS Supply Chain makes the shortlist for prestigious public sector procurement awards

Wednesday 11 February 2015

NHS Supply Chain is proud to be shortlisted for the Government Opportunities (GO) Excellence in Public Procurement Awards 2015/16 which will take place on 26 February 2015.

NHS Supply Chain, in partnership with NHS North West Procurement Development (NWPD), is a contender for the ‘GO Procurement Innovation or Initiative of the Year Award – Health and Social Care Organisations’. The teams have been shortlisted for the Desktop Stationery Core Range Initiative.

The project saw NHS Supply Chain’s desktop stationery catalogue rationalised from 8,500 lines to just 159. The aim was to promote an efficient purchasing culture in the NHS in line with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s focus on developing a core list of products. Since its launch in October 2014, this initiative is on course to deliver national savings of £5.8m* in the first year (an average of 40%).

“We are very pleased to be shortlisted for this award with NHS North West Procurement Development,” says Rachel Repper, Trading Director for Consumables at NHS Supply Chain. “The desktop stationery core range initiative is a great example of procurement partners working together to deliver much needed savings to the NHS."

“This initiative makes a tangible leap towards the £2bn national procurement savings target, and would not be possible without collaborative working between North West Procurement Development, the North West Trusts and NHS Supply Chain,” says Mick Guymer, Director, NHS North West Procurement Development.

The winners will be announced at an event in Manchester on 26 February.

* This is a potential national saving, which has been calculated using pricing and purchasing data from 01/02/13 to 31/01/14, and is based on the same volume of customer orders which were placed in that period, being placed in the next 12 months, and by comparing the pricing of the available 159 lines to the pricing on the lines which were previously purchased, in that period, under the Framework Agreement.
