World Environment Day (WED) 5 June

Friday 5 June 2015

World Environment Day

We are proud to be supporting World Environment Day (WED) -a global day of action designated by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme).

This year’s theme is “responsible management of the world’s natural resources”.

What we are doing to reduce our environmental impact?

Engaging our staff throughout our organisation

We are using the day to encourage staff to rethink their home and work habits, to find more ways to be more sustainable by providing ideas such as car sharing, using public transport, to recycling and rain harvesting to water plants.

By focusing on doing one less thing or one more thing differently, we can make a big impact.

Our on-going commitment to sustainability

Here are just a few of the things we are doing:

  • In 2014, we saved over 1.7million litres of water by installing waterless urinals at our Runcorn depot
  • Last year, we reduced vehicle journeys by 113 and carbon emissions by 49 tonnes by working with key suppliers
  • In 2014, our delivery vehicles used 373,000 less litres of diesel than the previous year
  • Our Delivered Ready Prepared Meals framework only uses sustainable palm oil
  • Our suppliers of Ward and Residential Furniture source timber sustainably
  • Our GoGreen strategy is to improve carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020.
