NHS Supply Chain opens new distribution facility to support organic business growth

Thursday 17 April 2008

Alfreton, Derbyshire – UK / April 2008

NHS Supply Chain will be opening a major new RDC (Regional Distribution Centre) in the Midlands on 14 July 2008.

To precede the opening of this new facility, there will be an open day on 26 April for people from the surrounding area to visit the new site and ask questions.

The new facility will provide over 70,000 sq ft of warehouse space to accommodate the growth of NHS Supply Chain’s product ranges, and new areas of supply chain focus such as orthopaedics and cardiology.

Up to 180 new jobs are being created for the local community in and around Rugby – forming a new team that will support the ongoing operations team.

The new facility will also significantly alleviate capacity pressure on NHS Supply Chain’s existing RDCs, after what has been an exceptionally busy opening 18 months.

Chris Williams, Operations Director, NHS Supply Chain, comments: ‘This development not only represents the demand that we have seen for modern supply chain services that enable NHS trusts to achieve their targets and focus on patient care. We will continue to invest to deliver quality, value and savings to the NHS, and look forward to seeing the new facility at Rugby support the growth of NHS Supply Chain.’

Andy Bishop, Project Manager for the new NHS Supply Chain, comments: “The RDC was part of original business case for the NHS Supply Chain contract. For the business to grow, we needed to invest in our operations & IT infrastructure, and we will continue to do so to support our ongoing commitment.’
