NHS Supply Chain ends contract with Novation statement

Wednesday 25 February 2009

NHS Supply Chain has confirmed today that it has mutually agreed with Novation to end the consulting services agreement in July 2009. Novation was engaged by DHL to help establish the procurement structure and processes for NHS Supply at the start of the contract in October 2006.

Roger West, NHS Supply Chain’s Procurement Director, now heads up an expanded procurement team of over 150 staff. In addition to over 60 new joiners to the business from a wide range of commercial backgrounds, the team now includes four trading directors who lead key portfolios across the patient pathway with the aim of ensuring that contracts meet the needs of customers and that improved value to the NHS is delivered. These appointments have upskilled and strengthened the capability of NHS Supply Chain’s procurement and trading capability. The evidence of this can be found in the wide range of new contracts launched in 2008; the positive uptake of these contracts across the NHS; and the delivery of savings to the NHS ahead of plan.

NHS Supply Chain’s aim is to deliver over a £1 billion in savings to the NHS over the 10-year contract term, through the provision of cost-effective supply chain services to health providers across England. These savings will be redirected back to the NHS to deliver treatment and services for patients.
