Pulse Oximetry and Capnography Devices and Support Products

The renewed Pulse Oximetry framework now encompasses Capnography and will run until 31 October 2017. 

Pulse oximetry devices are used across all departments within trusts, wider community teams and GP’s practices. The expansion of the specification to include capnography supports Coroner’s reports and NICE guidelines that suggest the measurement of ETCO2 alongside SpO2 can help reduce the risk of loss of life to patients.

The measurement of ETCO2 gives a more immediate indication to the healthcare worker of respiratory problems with patients.

The SpO2 measurement is taken largely from the finger but there are a variety of sensors that can take measurement from the ear, the forehead, and the toe. For all devices with exception to the finger devices, a sensor is required to be attached the main device, and can be either single use or reusable.

Capnography measurements are taken via an airway adaptor or sample line that guides the ETCO2 to a measurement device.

New products

All new supplier products are listed on the link below and available at contract launch. The portfolio will expand by approximately 600 lines with the addition of Capnography products offering a comprehensive listing avilable from one place.

Savings

There are potential national savings of 0.4% with the largest saving being on Product FBC005 a Pulse Oximetry sensor for single use, LNOP range neonatal long adhesive sensor Non-Returnable from Masimo offering a potential saving of circa 2.8%. **

Cost Pressures

Although there are cost pressures as a result of this framework renewal the buyer is currently in discussion with the supplier to address the price increases. Any changes will be updated on this page once discussions have been completed. **
