National Bladder and Bowel Health Project
The Clinical and Product Assurance (CaPA) team of NHS Supply Chain are supporting the work of the National Bladder and Bowel Health Project (NBBH); a project which has been established to improve continence care across the whole health and care system that is being led by NHS England.
This project will further research and implement recommendations from the NHS England Excellence in Continence Care strategy (published June 2018) which provides practical guidance for commissioners and leaders in health and social care.
Sue Doheny, Chief Nurse NHS England, is the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the Excellence in Continence Care Programme which oversees the NBBH project. The project includes representatives from across the health and care profession – patients and carers, suppliers and procurement.
Three clinical workstreams are central to this working group, focusing on the specific continence care needs for:
Stoma specialists, Patients and Carers, and NHS England and Improvement clinical leads are members of each workstream, with the collective objectives to:
- Understand patient needs
- Improve patient safety and outcomes
- Agree national standards
- Promote best practice.
