HFMA Annual Conference 2024

Patrick Butterworth and Hamish Makanji were joined by Clara Purnell, Head of Procurement – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust on Monday 2 December presenting the session “Enabling Greater Productivity: Delivering Financial, Operational and Clinical Benefits”.

Hamish Makanji provided a brief introduction to the NHS Supply Chain business for those unfamiliar with what we do on a daily basis. 

Patrick Butterworth then reminded people of our Buy Smart, Supply Right and Partner Expertly Strategy, and gave a high-level summary of the switch we are making to focus on broader value opportunities. He outlined the areas we are focusing on to deliver £1 billion of additional value to the NHS by working in partnership with systems and trusts. 

Clara Purnell, Head of Procurement at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT) and Deputy Chief Officer at HCSA, explained why Value Based Procurement (VBP) is key for all NHS trusts and systems. She highlighted the collaboration with NHS Supply Chain at both a Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West (BOB) ICB and at RBFT on VBP and innovation initiatives with our Care Pathway team.
