Salary:                       £59,275 with potential to rise to £69,735 over 3 years

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Data Governance Manager to lead and enhance our data governance capabilities, with a particular focus on master data management and data quality improvement.

This role will work across all areas of the business to ensure our data is well‑defined, well‑managed, trusted, and used effectively to support operational excellence and strategic decision‑making.

You will partner closely with business stakeholders, technology teams, and risk functions to establish robust governance processes, manage data risks, and ensure change initiatives are fully assessed for data impacts.

What does a Data Governance Manager do at NHS Supply Chain?

  • Develop and refine data governance policies, standards, and operating models, ensuring they are adopted across the business.
  • Manage and mature the organisation’s data governance framework including the data asset register.
  • Lead the data ownership community, providing guidance and support to ensure clear accountability for data assets.
  • Build strong relationships with teams across the organisation to embed good data management practices.
  • Provide governance expertise during change initiatives, assessing data impacts related to new systems, processes, integrations, and organisational change.
  • Ensure appropriate controls, data ownership, metadata, and data quality considerations are built into all change activity.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to project teams to ensure data risks are identified and addressed early
  • Identify, assess, and manage data-related risks across the organisation, ensuring appropriate mitigation actions and controls are in place.
  • Manage internal audits related to data governance.

What skills, qualifications and qualities do I need to be successful?

  • Strong experience in data governance, data management, or MDM-focused roles.
  • Solid understanding of DAMA principles, data governance operating models, and data quality management.
  • Experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks and controls.
  • Experience working in a complex data landscape with a strong business focus.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to translate complex data topics into clear messages.
  • Experience assessing data risks, managing controls, and supporting compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a structured and pragmatic approach.
  • Working knowledge of data architecture, metadata management, and lineage.
