Background expertise

Both Greg and Andy come from strong customer leadership backgrounds.

Andy has had a 20+ year career leading customer engagement and growth teams within the public sector. His most recent roles were for two organisations leading teams and implementing strategy in order to deliver key services across the NHS and to NHS England. He has also led on customer and industry best practice programmes. Within his last role he was responsible for growing an account management team to enhance framework awareness and savings opportunities for NHS Trusts.

My priorities are customer excellence and savings optimisation. We will lead through data insights to identify the right savings opportunities and collaborations for our Trusts. We want to continue to be a great place to work, where everyone strives to maximise the support we can provide NHS trusts. We want to be the customer and supplier’s first choice to work with.

Andy Roadknight, Head of Customer Engagement and Business Development, NHS Supply Chain: Food

Greg’s background is a 20 year career in retail procurement, buying predominantly fresh produce. Greg was previously Category Lead at NHS Supply Chain: Food, and has now taken on this next step up.

Our focus continues to be total value to you as trusts – to include cost, product quality and service and social value. We will be balancing our offer in terms of supplier choice, to ensure supply chain resilience for you (and contingency of supply), but with local sourcing options – including SMEs – to support your Green Plans. We want to ensure sustainable supply solutions and reduce your and our carbon impact.
We will also continue to monitor the changes to food legislation and government guidance for you, to ensure sourcing standards are compliant in terms of food safety legislation amendments. This work will continue to also focus on the Hospital Food Standards and any revisions made, and Government Buying Standards for food and catering.

We build relationships with manufacturers and producers directly in addition to large wholesalers, to offer variety of routes to market to fulfil the different trusts requirements and capabilities, as we know you all have individual needs. We are aligning Integrated Care Systems (ICS), with a focus on regional collaboration to drive value through regional and national fixed pricing, as well as logistics efficiencies.

Our values and future vision

Building on our existing foundations, their outlook for the year ahead focuses on you as the customer at its heart.

Both Andy and Greg live and breathe our core values – supporting you through collaboration, giving you a trusted advisor through our team’s experience with the NHS, providing you with confidence when it comes to commercials, and the added value offer we give you in terms of culinary and dietetic support.

We are working with you to review your total food procurement, thereby partnering with you longer term to become your advisors, and work more strategically.

This year we will be continuing the journey with you and your trust, instilling confidence within yourselves as well as the supply base. We are the food procurement team of choice and your trusted partner and our Food Account Managers and Category Buyers are here to help and guide you should you have any questions or queries.

We are proud to say we all put the NHS at the heart of everything we do, delivering value and the right supply solution for the customer needs. Food safety is absolutely crucial for us and all of our suppliers are required to get their food safety accreditation from Micron2
