Programme benefits published as delivery provider and NHS representatives appointed
NHS Supply Chain has published a new Benefits Fact Sheet, setting out how its NHS Supply Chain Modernisation Programme will deliver tangible value for patients, clinicians and the NHS.
Key benefits outlined in the fact sheet include:
- Wider range and more reliable availability of products, with greater confidence that items arrive when and where they are needed.
- Improved resilience through increased stockholding, smarter consolidation and system stability.
- Modern digital tools that make it easier to order, track deliveries and improve supply confidence.
- Better data and visibility to support planning, patient safety and regulatory compliance.
- More efficient operations that help unlock greater value for frontline care.
NHS Supply Chain has also confirmed the appointment of a Delivery and Assurance Provider following a competitive procurement process.
Efficio will work alongside our internal NHS Supply Chain team, providing specialist delivery support and independent assurance as we design and implement the programme. NHS Supply Chain remains fully accountable for the strategy, decisions and outcomes, with the provider strengthening our ability to deliver at pace and with confidence.

NHS Supply Chain is committed to working closely with trusts and system partners throughout design and delivery.
As part of this, we are establishing a Customer Design Board to co-create solutions, and support governance and decision‑making for the NHS Supply Chain Modernisation Programme. The Board will bring together senior representatives from across each NHS region to shape and approve key design decisions, ensuring future services reflect the needs of the system.
The Board will be initially chaired by Simon Walsh, Group Procurement Director at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, on an interim basis with Simon Clarke, Managing Director of Procurement for NHS Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull, to become permanent chair from mid-year.
Alongside this, we will shortly be recruiting seven full‑time roles, one from each NHS region. These roles will be open to colleagues currently working within the NHS and will be fully embedded within the programme team. These roles will play a vital part in co-creating the solution ensuring strong two‑way communication and regional insight throughout design and delivery.
