Karl Storz’s minimally invasive Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) system, known as MIP-M, is redefining kidney stone management across the UK – offering a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional PCNL procedures.
Designed for stones up to 30mm in diameter, the Karl Storz MIP-M system uses a 17.5 French Gauge (Fr) tract, significantly smaller than the conventional 30Fr.
The Karl Storz MIP-M smaller access size minimises tissue disruption, leading to less bleeding, lower infection risk, and reduced postoperative pain. These benefits translate into shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and lower treatment costs—a critical consideration for NHS trusts.
One of the standout features of the Karl Storz MIP-M system is its “vacuum cleaner effect”, which uses controlled irrigation flow to flush out stone fragments without the need for grasping instruments. This not only shortens procedure time but also reduces the risk of fluid overload and other complications.
The system is compatible with a wide range of lithotripsy devices, including laser fibres and ballistic probes, offering flexibility in treating various stone sizes and compositions.
