A Multi Trust Aggregation (MTA) opportunity is where we at NHS Supply Chain combine (aggregate), similar capital requirements from multiple trusts, across different product areas in order to achieve greater discounts from our suppliers, making savings for your trust.
The calendar below highlights the key dates for requirements sign‑off and funding approval.

Our MTA process
NHS trust
- Confirm and commit final requirements to NHS Supply Chain before the MTA closing date.
- The trust must have confirmed the questions below for the requirement to be added:
- Is the funding approved?
- Confirmation you are satisfied with the quotation, and no revisions are to be made?
- You are able to provide a purchase order directly to NHS Supply Chain no later than 30 days after the Unique Reference Number (URN) is issued?
- You are able to wait until around 15 working days for a URN to be issued?
- If there are multiple quotations, will these be ordered on separate purchase orders?
- Will this be purchased via charitable funding?
NHS Supply Chain
- Obtain agreement from suppliers where two or more trusts have a requirement to aggregate and negotiate further discount.
- Where no aggregation is possible- the trust will be advised and offered a standard URN.
- Successful requirements will have MTA quotations and URN generated and issued following approvals. The URN document and email contain instructions for raising the PO.
- Confirmation on the total savings achieved will be provided.
NHS Trust
Must issue the PO against NHS Supply Chain within 30 days of URN issue at the confirmed MTA value.
