Supply Issues Fresenius Medical Care System Closure/Upgrade eDirect Products (ICN 3407)

• The supply issue with renal product portfolio from Fresenius is now resolved.
• All product codes are now available to order through our online catalogue.
• This ICN is now closed.

Change:

• The supplier Fresenius Medical Care has informed us of a planned system upgrade (ERP implementation) which will temporarily affect order processing for its renal product portfolio.
• 354 product codes are affected in total.
• All affected products are supplied via the eDirect route.
• During the transition period, Fresenius will continue to pick, dispatch and deliver existing orders, however, there will be restrictions on processing new orders.
• The last date of an eDirect order can be placed for delivery during this period of closure is 22 July 2026.
• eDirect ordering is expected to resume from 5 August 2026, although this may improve to 4 August 2026 depending on the success of the system upgrade.
• No product suspensions are required, and no supply disruption is currently anticipated.

Impact:

• All 354 eDirect product codes will be unavailable for routine eDirect order placement between 23 July 2026 and 4 August 2026.
• Orders placed before the ordering cut-off date will continue to be picked, processed and delivered as planned.
• The supplier is not expecting any disruption to deliveries and has contingency plans in place to support continuity of supply.
• Emergency orders can still be placed during the blackout period and will be reviewed by the supplier on a case-by-case basis.
• The supplier has advised customers to place orders in advance to cover requirements during the transition period and immediately after service resumes.
• No alternative products will be provided at this time. If an alternative is required, please contact the Renal team by emailing: Renal@supplychain.nhs.uk who can work with you to support.
• A further update will be provided following the supplier’s scheduled review meeting on 3 August 2026.

Next Steps:

• Customers should review demand and place eDirect orders before 22 July 2026 to ensure sufficient stock coverage during the system transition period.
• Routine eDirect orders cannot be placed between 23 July 2026 and 4 August 2026.
• Emergency orders required during this period should be escalated directly to the supplier for review; however, this route should only be used for genuine urgent requirements.
• Fresenius will continue to ship and complete outstanding orders during the transition period and has confirmed manual contingency processes are available should any issues arise following implementation of the new ERP system.
• Normal business as usual ordering is expected to resume from 5 August 2026, subject to confirmation from the supplier.
