Sustainable opportunities
The following sustainable benefits are available from this innovative product:
- Reduction in overall product consumption opportunities:
- Due to its advanced, long‑lasting antimicrobial technology, Primel Active Hand Shield requires significantly fewer applications compared with traditional hand sanitiser products. This enables less applications in use and additionally results in lower plastic usage in manufacturing and reduced transportation requirements, helping to minimise overall environmental impact.
- Accessories are reusable:
- The two product accessories, the retractable clip and bed-end brackets, are reusable (not single-use), supporting sustainability by reducing waste. Their durability and continued use over time also help to minimise the demand for single-use plastic components, thereby reducing overall plastic consumption in manufacturing.
- Additionally, the product bottles of free standing, tottle and dispenser refill can be recycled.
- Value Based Procurement Opportunities:
- This framework includes a potential Value Based Procurement opportunity. The prolonged, active antimicrobial protection reduces the need for frequent hand washing, supporting water conservation and lowering ongoing resource consumption. Hand Washing is only required if hands are physically soiled after applying the active hand shield or recommendation to wash hands and re-apply the active hand shield before performing an aseptic procedure.
- The technology Protect on Touch actively kills pathogens on contact with surfaces and reduces pathogen transfer from the hands. This “protect on touch” feature has the potential to significantly reduce glove usage, delivering a substantial environmental benefit through reduced product waste.
- Due to the advanced technology long lasting residual activity and transfer on touch the Active hand shield has the potential to improve hand hygiene compliance improving the reduction of HCAI, potentially reducing bed stays and patient care. Manufacturing within the UK helps to reduce transportation distances, contributing to a lower carbon footprint and reduced emissions.
