bkActiv is a high-resolution, real-time intra-operative ultrasound system for operating theatres, aimed here at new users in upper gastrointestinal, hepatopancreatobiliary and general surgery. Patients undergoing laparoscopic bile duct exploration or cholecystectomy can face pathway delays waiting for on-table cholangiograms and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), which also depend on radiographer availability.

Bringing real-time imaging into theatre supports assessment of biliary anatomy and possible common bile duct stones during the procedure, which for suitable patients may reduce reliance on separate MRCP investigations, on-table cholangiography and in some cases endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Dual Live Compare allows live image comparison, alongside stored image compare and a mirror image view on the touchscreen, and sensitive colour Doppler shows blood flow during complex surgery.

The I12C4f (9066) transducer adds a four-way flexible laparoscopic tip for access to difficult-to-reach abdominal anatomy and is fully immersible for sterilisation. Surgeons retain control within the sterile field using the bkActiv remote, with adjustable monitor positioning.
