Type: New Contract Category: Diagnostic Equipment and Services Reference: 2023/S 000-017117 Supply Route: Direct, eDirect
Start Date: 28 March 2024 Expiry Date: 27 March 2026

The framework starts on 28 March 2024, runs for 24 months and ends on 27 March 2026. There is the option to extend for an additional 24 months.

The framework is consolidated into three Lots to simplify procurement processes and enable greater discounts across therapy types. The scope of the framework includes Haemodialysis (in-centre / satellite), Home Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies and Apheresis. It has been expanded to include Apheresis in its entirety as opposed to just Plasma Therapies.

The products on the framework are used by renal dialysis units and nephrologists.

There are three lots on the framework:

  • Lot 1 – Dialysis Consumables and Equipment
  • Lot 2 – CRRT and Plasma Therapies Consumables and Equipment
  • Lot 3 – Managed Services.

Pricing and Savings Opportunities
The start of the framework sees an average price increase of 9% across all modalities from suppliers which will result in a cost pressure for trusts procuring via the framework. The increase is calculated based on national only pricing and is due to inflation, transport costs, material shortages and labour costs.

To help mitigate the price increase there may be opportunities for customers through:

  • Product switching
  • Collaborative discounts
  • Cross-therapy discounts
  • Commitment agreements.

Any opportunities for product switching will require clinical input and sign off due to the clinical nature of many of the products.

There are also bespoke agreements currently set up via both the direct and eDirect route of the framework.

All Customer Bespoke Agreements will continue to be supported through the framework. Suppliers have confirmed they are contacting all existing customers regarding their individual circumstances and renewal of agreements before commencement of the framework on 28 March 2024. If you have not yet heard from your provider to organise a meeting to discuss upcoming changes, please contact:

Social value
From April 2022 all of our frameworks have adopted the Procurement Policy Notice 06/20.

Sustainable opportunities/solutions/products on this framework

  • U-Drain – significantly reduces the plastic usage for patients dialysing at home. Also improves patient experience by not having to carry substantial fluid bags to be cleared out.
  • Central concentrate systems – reduces the number of plastic canisters used for acids. Larger VATS can be filled thereby reducing costs, transport, storage etc.
  • Home Haemodialysis – enabling patients to receive their dialysis at home rather than having to travel to a hospital, reduces transport costs and carbon emissions significantly. It also provides value based procurement opportunities.

We are also working with green nephrology groups and suppliers to promote and develop initiatives.

Please note:To order products available via the direct route, you will need to quote your unique reference number (URN) when you place an order with your chosen supplier. To obtain an URN please contact us to discuss your requirements at:

Customers can use the framework agreement for Direct Award or Further Competition. Our buying guide provides more information. See our Useful Links section to view the guide.
