Our Clinical Approach

The Clinical team’s ambition is that we are clinically led and commercially driven to put patients first.

The Clinical Team at NHS Supply Chain

Introduction to Clinical

NHS Supply Chain has a group of expert and experienced clinical leaders (nurses, midwives and allied health professionals) supporting the business to procure medical devices, products and clinical consumables connecting end to end from suppliers and manufacturers to partnering with the NHS. They are professionally led by our National Clinical Director, Michelle Johnson.

Together the clinical workforce ensure that they are focused on patient care and that everything we purchase on behalf of the NHS is safe, meets the needs of the patients and health care professionals and is available at the right time and in the right place.  We support the NHS and other health and care providers to provide high quality care.

As well as working within directorates they work collaboratively across the organisation supporting a collective delivery of the five key priorities agreed within the clinical and quality plan for 2024/25.

All nurses and AHPs have a duty of care underpinning their practice and in accordance with a code of practice set out by the professional regulators/bodies e.g. NMC and Health Care Professions Council. This is referred to as accountability. It is defined as the principle that professionally registered individuals and organisations are responsible for their actions and may be required to explain them to others.

Our clinical plan has five priority areas, which holistically span our business model with reducing health inequalities in health care procurement, as a golden thread throughout all we do.
