  • Demand management is in place by the supplier as they are managing both back orders and new orders. The situation is improving, and Medtronic are fulfilling orders according to need.

Change:

  • The supplier Medtronic Limited has informed us of a supply issue with some of its Ligation products.
  • There are nine product codes affected.
  • Medtronic, along with other suppliers, were subject to shortages of resin earlier this year.
  • Resin is used in the handles of their devices.
  • The resin shortage was due to environmental issues in the USA.
  • Resin availability / production has now stabilised and Medtronic has sourced a new supplier of plastic resin.
  • However, Medtronic are currently allocating orders according to need and product availability and are working to clear back orders while maintaining current supply.
  • The supplier is also affected by manufacturing capacity issues due to staff shortages.
  • This has resulted in back-order fulfilment being based on priority.

Impact:

  • The affected product codes are currently subject to intermittent supply and may have longer lead times than normal or order quantities may be amended in line with Medtronic Allocation Management.
  • Demand management is in place by the supplier as they are managing both back orders and new orders. The situation is improving and Medtronic are fulfilling orders according to need.
  • Potentially suitable alternatives have been identified for some of the affected product codes, however, these are subject to compatibility with the in-house generator which is provided by the supplier along with the need for Advanced Bipolar or Ultrasonic, although most will rely on preference as opposed to suitability for the procedure.
  • We are monitoring the availability of alternatives and constantly reviewing the list to ensure the most accurate alternatives are available.
  • See our Downloads▼ section to access the product listing for further information on the affected product codes and potential alternatives.
  • The supply issue is currently anticipated to continue for a period of up to six months, we will update this ICN once we have further information.
