Pressure Infusers and Associated Products

This framework starts on 1 September 2026, runs for 24 months and ends on 31 August 2028. There is an option to extend for an additional 24 months.

Resilience

Our increased knowledge of the global manufacturing base following COVID-19 and subsequent global supply challenges, means we are better able to identify potential risks and mitigate them by building resilience into our sourcing strategies.

For this framework we are adopting measures including ensuring suppliers hold more stock in UK warehouses so that suppliers have additional stocks in place in the event of a supply disruption.

How to purchase from the framework

Products available via our Stocked and eDirect supply routes can be purchased using our online catalogue.

Ordering samples

Product samples are available from all of the suppliers on the framework.

Please note that the decision to supply samples, along with the unit of issue, supplied quantity, time to supply and free of charge nature of any request, is solely the decision of the relevant supplier(s).

Requests for samples should initially be discussed with your NHS Supply Chain ICS Manager. They will then work with you and the respective supplier(s) to agree requests and order on your behalf.

Information for Clinical Choice (ICC) will be available on this framework to highlight clinical suitability of alternative products which could deliver savings.

This framework agreement currently supports the NHS Core List offering, which will be refreshed via a mini competition within 12 months of go live.

Sustainability, net zero and social value are important elements in how NHS Supply Chain build our framework offering through the procurement process, tendering, supplier award and contract management. There are five mandatory requirements for suppliers to address supporting compliance with relevant PPNs and NHS England policy:

Sustainable opportunities
The following sustainable opportunities are available on this framework:

• Reusables (over single use items) – Pressure Infusers are currently available in both disposable and reusable versions. It is recognised that there are additional points to consider when comparing both types of products. Current health care practice is that the disposable product is often reused in situ. There is an initial cost implication of moving to reusable products. If a pressure infuser becomes soiled or damaged while in use it will need to be disposed of immediately regardless of if it is a reusable or disposable product. Further work will be undertaken during the framework period with the support of both suppliers and the clinical team to explore all sustainable opportunities.
• Waste services – we will look to explore options for take back schemes and recycling services during the lifetime of the framework agreement.

About the products
Pressure infusers are specialised medical devices used to rapidly force intravenous (IV) fluids or blood products from a flexible bag into a patient’s bloodstream. They work by applying controlled, external pneumatic pressure to the fluid bag, significantly increasing the flow rate compared to a standard gravity-fed IV setup.

Hospital departments use these devices primarily in critical, life-threatening situations where a patient has lost massive amounts of fluid or blood and requires immediate resuscitation, for example, A&E, Theatres, ICU’s Delivery suites and Ambulances.
